David McQuade

David McQuade started his housing career with the City Council in Glasgow in 1981. Initially starting as a Community Development Manager in one of Glasgow's large peripheral post war estates. At that time Glasgow was one of the biggest Housing Authorities in Europe with 180,000 homes. He left City Housing in 1988 and moved to Kent working with a number of Local Authorities and Housing Associations as a senior manager. In 1993 he moved to Suffolk, joining Suffolk Heritage Housing Association as Director of Housing. In 1997 he joined Flagship Housing Group as a Director of one of its main subsidiary companies moving to the Group Deputy Chief Exec position in 1999.

He has been involved in numerous transfers of Local Government housing stock, the formation of Group Structures and Leading Merger activity. David studied Housing at Glasgow University and Surveying at Reading University. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing and Institute of Management. Interests and hobbies include Futurology, Poetry and Marathons.




"Acting on the system; some principles, practices and issues"

David will be presenting his experience over the last two years in moving from a command and control leadership style to systems thinking. He will highlight the huge learning in terms of his own leadership role and the impact throughout the entire organisation. He will demonstrate some stunning performance improvements and give an insight into Flagship's impressive journey. As part of this session he will touch on the major challenges in transforming the culture internally and with a wide range of business partners.
