Transforming the health service - what are we learning?
This interactive workshop will describe progress in adapting and developing quality improvement methods to transform healthcare. It will show how systems thinking, focus on patient flows and understanding variation have combined to result in improved clinical outcomes as well as reduced cycle times and efficiency gains.
The NHS Institute is building on the work of the NHS Modernisation Agency to develop a systematic approach to quality improvement. 'Clinical Systems Improvement' has been developed from practical experience in health service projects, collaboratives and partnerships, combined with operations management learning from other sectors, to help healthcare organisations improve the quality and value of the services they deliver. Hugh and others in the NHS Institute have been working with Warwick University to develop this knowledge and present it for the NHS. In this interactive workshop you will hear what progress has been made, see some of the results, and contribute your own wisdom to support this important work. You will hear how systems thinking, focus on patient flows and understanding variation have combined to result in improved clinical outcomes as well as efficiency gains and reduced cycle times.
