James Crawford

James is a business transformation manager who has worked in the service and high-tech industries in the UK and Europe for almost 20 years. He is currently a Director of eXstream Networks Ltd, a new broadband communications business, and is affiliated to Rubicon Associates, the Lean Service consultancy and Penna plc, the HR Change consultancy. Previously he was the Head of Business Strategy and Transformation at United Utilities plc, a member of the eutilia.com start-up team, and a pan-European Programme Director with ICL-Fujitsu. He also spent time in Pakistan with a community development organisation. James' field includes strategy formulation, the shaping of change initiatives, organisational design, programme delivery and on to constant improvement and benefits management. He is a passionate promoter of lean thinking and better management practices. He graduated from Bristol University with a Bsc (Hons) in Computer Science and is an accredited Project Manager. James will set the scene by looking at some of the typical challenges and pitfalls of transformation initiatives. He will outline how the approach developed by Dr Deming and others provides a powerful method for leading real customer-focused transformation and maintaining it in the long term.
